Exciting News

April 17, 2011

It’s been a while since the last post hasn’t it…sorry!.. but

First piece of news: three of our co-op members have been busy with a new project – The Smithy Studios. This is a yarn, fabric and haberdashery emporium, with room  for workshops and a studio space which will be available for craft makers and artists to hire for a day/part of a day or longer. The Smithy Studios is a Community Interest Company and will work alongside the Glossop Fibre Arts Co-operative to nurture local makers and artists, providing an outlet for locally produced arts and crafts and the two organisations are currently in discussion about there being a discount for co-op members at the Smithy Studios.

Catherine Carr Glass will be moving into some of the studio space – opening up opportunities for glass, ceramic and jewellry making.

The Smithy Studios are at 1 Smithy Fold, Glossop. Their website is in development but do please have a look as there will be updates on the blog over the next few weeks as The Smithy Studios gets ready for opening – expected opening is mid May.

Second piece of news: Four members of Glossop Fibre Arts are taking part in Derbyshire Open Arts over the Bank holiday Weekend 28th/29th/30th May. There are eight exhibitors in Glossop and many more across the county. This is a great opportunity to visit artists in their studios and view the wealth of talent across the county. Their stunning new website with the brochure is here.

Last piece of news: Moot Workshop  – Silk Painting, Thursday 19th May  12-3pm at The Smithy Studios (cost £12 members/£18 non-members plus £2 for materials). More details will follow.
